How we chose the best laptop brands:

The essential criteria while choosing the best laptop brands are by their reviews, design, support and warranty, innovation, and value and selection. All of these are crucial considerations and below we mention the reasons.

1. Reviews

The products of the top brands will always have great positive reviews. These will be by the state-of-the-art products in a pocket-friendly budget. The other factors taken into account are the overall performance, battery life, and the ease of carrying them.

2. Design

Do we need to mention, it is the looks that attract us primarily? The top laptop brands are continuously working for giving their products a revamped look. Some of them have awesome looking chassis and 360-degree hinges for the ease of working in the laptop. Furthermore, some laptops are designed in a way so that they can also double up as a tablet. Therefore, the design factor plays a major role-playing decision.

3. Support & Warranty

Even the best-branded products can run into trouble. Often, it can be a hardware related issue or something related to the OS. You will be looking for the support and warranty from the manufacturers in such cases. Most of the best brands offer their help through social media channels and the conventional way of contacting them over the phone. The response time is crucial.

Additionally, the warranty period of the product matters a lot. You need to be sure if the products offer a one-year warranty or have specific warranties on the various parts of the laptop. Also, some brands provide free shipping protection when you send them for servicing. So, all these factors are important determinants for choosing the best laptop brands.

4. Innovation

We love out of the box ideas, isn’t it? The best laptop manufacturers leave no stones unturned in making their products innovative. You can see there is a tough competition among the leading brands in this aspect. Innovations tend to make the laptop using experience a very pleasurable experience for you. Whether you need a laptop for your business or gaming, innovations are always welcome.

5. Value & Selection

The best laptop brands tend to address the requirements of the masses. Not everyone can afford an expensive laptop with high-end features. Therefore, the best brands will have a wide array of laptops at different prices. You can choose from a budget-friendly laptop to a powerful and expensive one. Even the cheaper laptops do not compromise with quality. Most of the leading laptop brands have such diverse products. Thus, value and selection are no doubt vital aspects when choosing the best laptop brands.

1. Lenovo

Lenovo is a trusted brand manufacturing innovative laptops for several years now. After reviewing the full range of products from Lenovo, we have no hesitation in crowning it one of the best laptop brands. It has come up with perfect products and deservingly gets 5-star ratings for a series of products. Lenovo is always on the top of the game and continues to dominate the laptop market.

Lenovo’s assembly line has some great laptops which boast of excellent build quality, extraordinary battery life, and unmatched performance. Lenovo fared very impressively and bagged more than ten Editor’s Choice Awards. The product ThinkPad X1 Carbon (6th Gen) has been a game-changer. It received full marks by the reviewers. 3-star ratings are considered the passing grade of products, and interestingly, not a single laptop from Lenovo got less than 3-star ratings.

Generally, when you are paying less, you tend to think you are compromising with the looks. Lenovo has gone for some exceptional changes in designs like the introduction of polycarbonate frames which drastically resembles metal and gives the budget-friendly laptops a rich-look. Additionally, Lenovo has a series of impressive designs that sport a black, carbon-fiber, dust, vibration, shock, and temperature resistant laptop chassis. The Yoga series from Lenovo sets the benchmark design for convertible laptops. It is true, not all of them are flawless, and some of them do have trifle design issues, but overall all their products guarantee unique designs.

The support for Lenovo products was slightly disappointing. While it is a breeze to get in touch with the technical support team over the phone, their representatives at times are incapable of providing the solution to your problems. However, Lenovo makes up for the flaw, as it has an excellent online support team. Here again, you will notice organizational issues which ultimately will make life difficult for you to find accurate information. Lenovo offers free shipping for both inbound and outbound. There are only a handful of cheaper models to which Lenovo does not cover the shipping.

In the year 2018, Lenovo has come up with some mind-blowing innovations. It was Lenovo that showed the path for other manufacturers to incorporate HDR displays. Again, the collaboration with Legion for the gaming laptops has helped the laptops to get a plethora of features. Lenovo also came up with the 25th-anniversary special edition ThinkPad which is a perfect combination of conventional aesthetics and modernization. In the pipeline, Lenovo plans to release a laptop with the powerful Snapdragon 835 CPU.

Lenovo has the best range of laptops. Right from the detachable laptops, convertibles, and budget-friendly products, it gives you a variety of products to select and great value for your money. Gaming laptops, Chromebooks are some of the other products in their already impressive line of products.

Lenovo High-Fives:

The ThinkPads are incredible. Perhaps, you will not get to see a better laptop which has the best combination of durability, build quality, battery life, and keyboards. You will find a Lenovo product, no matter whatever budget you plan to spend on your next laptop. Lenovo is leading the way in the field of innovations, which undeniably makes it the numero uno brand in the laptop market.

The downsides:
The only letdown was the poor phone support system of Lenovo. Else, we found the Lenovo products to be exceptional in all counts.

The best overall Lenovo Laptop: Lenovo IdeaPad 320

The Lenovo IdeaPad 320 ideally sets the benchmark for budget-friendly or entry-level laptops. Lenovo offers this laptop at a price below $400, and yet it does not compromise with the features. It sports a sleek, premium, modern looks, and when you open it in a public place, heads are bound to turn. It also gives you the privilege to work in the Windows 10 platform and gives you a robust performance.

As already mentioned, the design is the main USP of the laptop. Anyone who takes a glimpse would believe it to be an expensive laptop. Unlike most of the budget-friendly laptops, the IdeaPad 320 does not sport a thick frame and primary lines. Lenovo has given it a shell that drastically resembles an ultrabook. However, it is mostly plastic and not aluminum, as you usually see in the high-end laptops. But, that is fine at this price range. But it is not entirely plastic, the lid is aluminum and Lenovo smartly introduces a classy look instead of trying to capitalize showing it off, as the entire shell is black.

The laptop is quite strong, the interior of the laptop consists of a brushed-aluminum chassis and has a gray paint. The keyboard is dark-gray, and it is very comfortable to type in it. Lenovo has rightfully put the webcam on the top bezel which is a brilliant move. The laptop is also very slim in comparison to the other laptops available in this price range.

The Lenovo IdeaPad 320 is powered by Intel Core i3 (7th Gen) 7100/2.4 GHz Dual Core processor. It has a 3MB Cache memory and supports 64-bit computing. It includes the DDR4 SDRAM is 4GB and can support max up to 16GB. The Intel HD Graphics 620 takes care of the graphics, and it is capable of storing in 500GB and 1TB variants in the hard disk. The screen size is 15.6-inches, and the resolution is 1366 x 768p. The ports include 2 USB 3.0, 1 USB Type-C, HDMI, 4-in-1 card reader (SD, SDHC, SDXC, and MMC), RJ45, headphone jack, DVD drive, and a security lock slot. Furthermore, it includes LED-backlit technology, and weight is only 4.85 pounds.

The performance is where the IdeaPad 320 falters. Since the resolution is only 1366 x 768p, you cannot expect vivid and bright images on the 15.6-inch screen. Again, the Intel Core i3 (7th Gen) 7100 processor also does not guarantee an optimal performance when you are working on many things at the same time. Again, battery life is not something you can boast. It lasts only over 6 hours.

We would recommend the Lenovo IdeaPad 320 to be the best overall laptop going by its specifications and the price. It has the drop-dead looks and is much lighter. Only if Lenovo could have made it a better performer, it would have been an unbeatable choice

2. HP

HP has overtaken its competitors and rightfully deserves the second place in the best brands of laptop category. In 2018, HP has come up with a wide array of laptops that offer value for your money, excellent designs, and this has earned its products a lot of positive reviews. Some of the laptops like the Spectre, ZBook, and EliteBook were a delight to work with. The HP Envy 13t was an excellent laptop that packs several useful features including exceptional battery life.

Similarly, the HP EliteBook targeted for business use was also in favor. Some of the products though left us wanting more, but overall HP had a great year. Whether you are looking for a high-end laptop or a cheap laptop, you will get them all. Furthermore, for those who are searching for need-based laptops, i.e., for gaming, business, and convertible, HP offers you with a lot of choices to meet your requirements.

Most of the premium laptops from HP boast of prolific designs. The inclusion of the silver aluminum chassis, 360-degree hinges, and excellent keypads will make working with them a sheer delight. Furthermore, HP revamped several of its older laptops, and thus they have found a lot of appreciation for this reason. Though some of the laptops in its assembly line do include laptops made of plastic, HP tactfully uses vibrant colors to make up for the cheap-construction, which again is a smart move.

For any reason, if you need assistance from HP, you should consider contacting them through social channels. The phone support is not up to the mark, and the representatives tend to push the customers for availing the paid service. You can expect a one-year warranty on most of their models; similarly, HP provides free shipping for servicing, except the cheaper models.

HP added one more feather in the cap by overhauling the Omen gaming line up; this has made way for good laptops that have brilliant displays and room for up-gradation. For those, looking for innovative laptops will be happy to see at the 2-in 1one convertible, the introduction of a new Stylus, and a 4K matte display. Lastly, this year witnessed the launch of HP laptops with Snapdragon processors running Windows operating systems.

HP High Fives

HP is always known for manufacturing good-looking laptops and products that cater to the requirements of everyone. In 2018, HP manages to keep the goodwill with elan. You are spoilt for choices when it comes to designs and options. Lastly, their overall product support is also exceptional.

The downsides

It seems HP has been mostly concentrating on the designs and variety, and in doing so, they did not pay attention to the performance. It is evident, as some of the expensive laptops from HP lacks the required performance that you expect. HP also needs to work on their phone support as they often tend to provide misleading information.

The best overall HP Laptop: HP Envy 13t

The HP Envy 13t is the perfect laptop that does not cost an arm and a leg but packs all the goodness and features. The laptop can surely give many higher-end laptops a good run for their money. Though in the aspects of display and endurance you will consider the services of the more expensive laptops, undeniably, this is the best overall laptop from HP.

Recently, if you have noticed, there is an increasing trend of silver-colored laptops. The HP Envy 13t also sports a similar color but it stands out from the crowd. HP has included some special touches like a small incline in the back of the matte aluminum lid that covers the hinge. The result is a stunning design with sleek lines. The brand logo shines in the middle of the lid which makes a strong statement. The tapered shape of the chassis adds to its style and sleekness. The bottom of the laptop is made from magnesium alloy. Uncovering the lid welcomes you with an aluminum deck, with silver keys. The side bezels do appear thin, but you will not mind it. The product is also available in one more “Silk Gold” variant. The laptop is slim; you can easily fit it in your narrowest of bags.

The HP Envy 13t is powered by CPU: 2.5GHz Intel Core 8th Gen i7-6500U (dual-core, 4MB Cache, turbo boost up to 3.1GHz). The Graphics are taken care of by the Intel HD Graphics 520. It has 8GB DDR3L SDRAM, while the screen is 13.3-inch diagonal IPS Anti-Glare WLED-backlit 1920 x 1080 resolution. The storage options include 256GB M.2 SSD (plus 25GB of free online Dropbox storage for six months). The ports include 3 x USB 3.0 (1 x HP USB Boost), 1 x HDMI, 1 x headphone/microphone combo, and 1 x multi-format SD card reader. The webcam is HP TrueVision HD Webcam (front-facing) with integrated dual array digital microphone. The laptop weighs 1.36kg / 3lb, and the size is 12.85 x 8.90 x 0.50-inches / 326 x 226 x 12.9mm (W x D x H).

The performance of the laptop is exceptional. You can open as many browser tabs and work simultaneously on them and still you would not experience any lag. Of course, you cannot expect this laptop to be the best replacement for a gaming laptop, but you can play the less demanding games flawlessly. The display is decent but lacks the “pop” feature which is common on the higher-end models. The battery life is excellent. We would say, the laptop is a dream comes true for those who often leave their chargers at home while traveling. During our evaluation, the battery lasted close to ten hours. So, you can work a full day with it without having to run out of steam. Even after using the laptop for a long session, the bottom did not heat up which is another good aspect.

The HP Envy 13t can be the ideal laptop for everyone except the hardcore gaming fans. You will be able to work with it all day long and love the experience of typing. A must-have laptop, if you are looking for an all-round robust laptop.

3. Dell

Dell is always known for its assembly line of laptops that are best for those who love gaming, premium, and workstations. Dell offers one of the best customer support, and it is always in the game for providing state-of-the-art laptops in the field of innovation and laptops to suit the requirements. Some of its top models are a delight to work with. However, the products targeted for the average consumer and business laptops need to improve regarding quality. It is high time now; Dell should start working on bettering these laptops which will surely give them an edge over their competitors.

Dell’s performance in the laptop segment is a mixed bag. While the high-end gaming and workstation laptops stand out from their competitors, the ones targeted for the average consumers lack the fizz and power. For instance, the Dell XPS 13 model continues to hold a strong position in the best overall laptop segment for some time now. But, some of the other variants are the lackluster sporting average battery life, uninspiring screen resolutions, and mediocre keypads. Thus, many of the consumer laptops received negative reviews.

As already mentioned, it seems Dell’s solely focusing on the XPS series that continues to excel. The recent additions include white and gold chassis and non-existent bezels. The other products continue to remain neglected as they continue to sport the same old-fashioned looks, something to which Dell needs to work upon if they need to stay upfront in this stiff competition.

The support system of Dell deservingly gets a five star. If you run into trouble with the Dell laptop, you will get support from all the quarters including the phone support and social media channels to fix it. Dell also offers free shipping for most of its products when it needs servicing. Additionally, Dell also introduced two types of extended warranties. One includes the accidental damage and the other without the unintentional damage.

We already mentioned, Dell seems to have put all its focus on the high-end laptops. Innovations in the XPS series make it one of the most popular laptops. They are now a lot thinner and sleeker, thanks to the introduction of thermal technologies. Additionally, Dell has come up with various software upgrades that allow the user to perform several functions with their XPS laptops like making calls and texts on Android phones, the ability to control the phone from the laptop and much more.

Overall, Dell has come up with several laptops this year in both the low-end and high-end segments. The introductions of Chromebooks for those who are looking for an alternative to Windows are also there. The gaming fans will swear by the Dell laptops as they continue to produce some of the best gaming laptops that you could ever imagine. The convertible laptops also made their entry but were not awe-inspiring.

Dell High Fives

Those looking for premium and gaming laptops will look no further. Dell laptops are easily the best to suit the requirements of premium users who continuously search for innovations, newer designs, excellent battery life, and bright screens. Their support system is the best in the world; they take care of your problems with top priority.

The downsides

Dell is gradually fading into oblivion in the average consumer laptops segment. Though these laptops are very affordable, they severely lack the design, innovation, and performance.

The best overall Dell laptop: Dell XPS 13 9370

Dell XPS 13 manages to hold its position regarding the best overall laptop for many years now. It is almost perfect in all departments like the borderless display, sleekness, lightweight, and innovations. Dell continues to upgrade the design and feature of the XPS 13 making it the top choice for high-end consumers. The latest changes include an optional 4K display, superior webcam, support for eGPUs and an enhanced cooling system. In an ode to make the XPS thinner and lighter, Dell has come up with a smaller battery and has removed the Type-A ports.

The XPS 13 sports a brand new CPU sticker on the deck and its gold and white color have a lot of visual appeals. It is also available in the traditional silver and black variants. The white and gold variant is priced higher, but most people would prefer it just because of its capability of turning heads. The lid and the bottom sports gold-colored aluminum, and the sides and the deck are made of woven crystalline silica fiber. The weave-like structure of the deck offers a great deal of comfort to the wrists while working in it. The new XPS is a lot lighter and thinner than its predecessor and you will find it incredibly easy to carry the laptop.

The Dell XPS 13 9370 is powered by CPU: 1.8GHz Intel Core i7-8550U (quad-core, 8MB cache, up to 4.0GHz). The Graphics are taken care of by the Intel UHD Graphics 620. It has 16GB DDR3 (2,133MHz), while the screen is 13.3-inch, Ultra HD (3,840 x 2,160) UltraSharp InfinityEdge touch display. The storage options include 1TB PCIe SSD. The ports include 2 x Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C), 1 x USB-C 3.1, micro SD card reader, headset jack. The webcam is Widescreen HD (720p) webcam with four array digital microphones. The laptop weighs 2.67 pounds (1.21kg), and the size is 1.9 x 7.8 x 0.3-0.46 inches (3.02 x 1.99 x 0.78-1.16cm; W x D x H).

The performance is top-notch. No matter whatever you do, from surfing the internet to gaming, the laptop’s performance did not falter. Recently, Dell has also come up with a new cooling system that allows you to perform demanding tasks without the laptop causing any problems of overheating. Generally, laptops tend to slow the CPU when they heat up, but thanks to this new system from Dell, the CPU speed is never compromised. The graphics take good care if you want to perform light video editing or playing games in lower settings. In our comparison with some of the other higher-end laptops, we found the XPS to be way better regarding performance. The battery life is very decent. The model with the 4K display lasts for a little above than eight and a half hours, while the 1080p non-touch screen variant can last over twelve hours.

The Dell XPS 13 with all its variants has enough resources to make you fall in love with it. As Dell continues to improvise the XPS series, we can expect a lot of improvements in the future. For now, those who are die-hard gaming fans and looking for a laptop without the USB Type-A ports Dell XPS 13 will remain the best choice for quite some time.

4. Acer

Acer is a well-known name for providing good quality laptops at budget-friendly prices. In 2018 too it continues to impress with its range of value laptops. This year also saw the dawn of the biggest laptop ever, a 21-inch variant that includes features such as a curved display and a mechanical keyboard, and with many other features, the Predator 21X.

Acer is ready with its range of gaming laptops and ready to give a run for the money to the competitors. Acer products have drawn a lot of appreciation from the critics, and it promises to offer more such quality laptops in the coming days. The E series laptops are mainly the talk of the town as Acer has included some cool features like discrete graphics, SSDs, 1080p screens and all this at unbelievably low prices. Again, Acer has stepped into the arena of the convertible and has come up with some brilliant products, albeit at an affordable price.

The looks of the Acer laptops particularly in the gaming sector has won many hearts. The inclusion of a glass touchpad at the top of the keyboard deck and the curved display of the humungous 21-inch laptop has managed to make a lot of fans. The Aspire V17 is one more gaming laptop is one more product that is a crowd puller. Given that, Acer is thinking seriously on the gaming front; it is time they need to focus on the mainstream consumer laptops also. The laptops in this genre require a facelift. Despite these products being robust and good-looking, amidst the fierce competition, Acer surely needs to make them better.

The support system of Acer is the most disappointing. Neither the representatives in the social media channel nor the phone support guys are worth speaking. They will invariably supply you with misleading information and will continuously press the customer to take up paid support. As far as shipping is concerned, Acer does not offer free shipping if you send a notebook for servicing. It is your choice you can pay more for accidental damage protection.

When you consider the value for your purchase, Acer is the brand you want to go for. You will always get more than you expect at the most affordable prices. We keep reiterating about the Predator 21X which is bound to mesmerize you. Overall, Acer offers you all the laptops, from high to the low range, whether you are a gaming fan or an average user, an Acer product is always there in the reckoning.

Acer High Fives
If you think, getting a laptop that supports Full HD display at a price below the $400 is impossible, Acer has the solution for you. Additionally, all the Acer laptops will invariably have a strong built and good looks.

The downsides

Tech support is a big disappointment. You will rue, why on earth your laptop developed any problems. To make matters complicated, you need to pay for the shipping when you send the laptop for service. Acer needs to work on this aspect in the future.

The best overall Acer laptop: Acer Aspire E 15

Acer is known for its ability to surprise us by coming up with a stunning laptop at an unbelievable price. Acer Aspire E 15 is one such laptop that is bound to surprise you with its abilities. You can start ticking all the boxes, as this laptop delivers superbly. It comes with a decent 15-inch display, several ports, a comfortable keyboard, a decent battery life, and the ability to stay cool even when it is put under pressure. Well, it does have its share of flaws but this laptop gives you true value for your money.

The design of the Acer Aspire E 15 will not turn any heads. The deck is smooth but made out of chunky plastic. Thus, Acer has added metal texture to make it look a bit better. The lid is dark-gray and has a subtle cross etching. It further has a chrome trim near the touchpad to liven up the otherwise dull design. The logo of the manufacturer appears on the lid. The laptop is big and bulky and is not easy to carry. Moreover, the laptop does not have a touchscreen display.

The Acer Aspire E 15 is powered by CPU: Intel Core i3-8130U. The Graphics are taken care of by the Intel UHD Graphics 620. It has 6GB RAM, while the screen is 15.6-inch, (1920 x 1080). The storage options include 1TB. The ports include 2 x Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C), 1 x USB-C 3.1, headset jack. The webcam is HD which sports a resolution of 1280 x 720 p The laptop weighs 5 pounds (1.21kg), and the size is 15 x 10.2 x 1.2 inches ( W x D x H).

The laptop offers a decent display, but the colors are not very vibrant. The laptop, however, scores exceptionally well as it is powered by the 8th Gen Intel Core i3 processor. You can go on adding as many tabs of your browser and can work in them without the laptop causing any problems. The videos appear decently, but once you start playing HD videos in tandem, you may notice some lag. The hard drive is an underperformer considering it since has a slow spinning mechanical HDD.

The battery life of this laptop is also decent. You can expect it to perform more than eight and a half hours. Considering this to be a budget laptop, this is remarkable. Another good aspect, the laptop seldom shows any signs of heating even in taxing conditions. However, a webcam will not make you happy. If you need to use the webcam often, we recommend you to get an external webcam for the laptop.

For a laptop in the below $400 range, the Acer Aspire E 15 is a good choice. Yes, there are issues like the laptop sports a bulky appearance, a design that is only a fraction above the conventional laptops, and not so vibrant display, but the performance makes up for these flaws. Undoubtedly, this has to be the best 15-inch laptop in this price range.

4. Asus

Are you thinking, we erroneously mentioned Asus in the number 4 spot? That isn’t the case. Asus along with Acer gracefully takes the fourth spot in the best brand of laptop arena. Like Acer, Asus too managed to attract many eyeballs with its overall range of value, premium, and gaming laptops. The icing on the cake is the mesmerizing design that goes with it. Expectedly, like the other premium brands, Asus also offers a range of laptops for everyone. The launch of a super-thin gaming notebook that consists of an innovative hinge and an Nvidia Max-Q GPU caught the attention of many people.

When we take into account the best value laptops, Asus can be entrusted. It has some spectacular offerings in this category. But, still, Asus has not managed to climb the ladder of success as their products could not win the hearts of the experts. It did not even manage to win a single Editor’s choice award this year. Regardless of the fact, Asus laptops have an excellent overall rating and are known for stellar performances. Some of its products have won the hearts owing to their compelling design, and powerful battery life. Here, we must also mention the durability of some of its products. One of them can even survive 4-foot drops and remaining unscratched as it is made of plastic-rubber chassis.

Asus seems to have a bad eye over plastics. Significantly, most of the laptops from Asus are not made out of plastic. Almost all the products from this manufacturer have the robustness and Asus seems to have a particular preference over the design feature that consists of concentric circles that makes their products visually appealing. Available in multiple colors like blue, silver, purplish-gray, Asus insists on the looks very much.
The support system of the Asus falls flat. You will find a hard time just for the sake to know the process of contacting customer care. Asus also does not provide free shipping. To service, you have to pay the fees which are also very undesirable in this era.

For surviving the stiff competition, Asus has put a lot of effort, and it shows. The thin gaming laptop it has come up with is perhaps one of the unique laptops in the modern period. Furthermore, Asus has introduced features such as the ability of the touchpad to double up as a number pad, and a unique venting system that tends to open up the laptop when you are working with it.

For sure, Asus offers excellent value for your money. You can get premium laptops under $750, whereas laptops sporting almost identical features are way above the $1000 range. Despite being cheaper than the competitors, Asus has not drawn peace with the performance and specifications of their products. Even in the average consumer range, Asus includes several features like full HD display, some functional ports and much more at a price below $400. You will see also the other popular variants of laptops like the convertible. Moreover, Asus has an impressive fan following in the segment of gaming laptops.

Asus High Fives

The idea to get rid of plastic and introducing metal minimalist design is going to win appreciation from the consumers. No matter, what your preferences are, you will find there is an Asus laptop perfectly suitable for your requirements. Thus, value-wise, Asus is a great choice.

The downsides

Over time, laptops will invariably develop issues, and you will have to toil hard to get a solution. The tech support system is not the best as you can imagine. Furthermore, having to pay from your pocket for servicing the laptop is also not acceptable either.

Best overall Asus laptop: Asus ZenBook 13 UX331UN

The most appealing part of this laptop is its color and design. The laptop isn’t inexpensive, but it justifies its price as it packs a solid punch. You can imagine how the Intel Core i5 8th Gen processor coupled with 8GB of RAM is capable of delivering, and that is not all. It also has the Nvidia GeForce MX150 GPU. The looks, the performance, the durable battery all sum up to make it the best overall laptop.

You will love to show off this laptop, and anyone who takes a glimpse at it will be compelled to share a few words of appreciation. You do not often spot navy blue-colored laptops, but the ZenBook 13 does that. The lid is similar to all the other laptops from Asus has the iconic designs along with the logo encircled by concentric lines. Right on the top Asus has as added a shiny layer which is plastic but is an absolute delight to watch as it shines like glass. Well, you cannot save it from accumulating fingerprints, but you will love the way the light shines on it. The bezel is relatively thin, and it has a navy-colored aluminum chassis.

Additionally, the keyboard is of island style, and it contains a fingerprint reader. You can find the ports on the left side that includes a Type-C port too. The right side is reserved for the microSD card, headphone jack, and the USB 3.0 port.

The Zenbook 13 is powered by CPU: Intel Core i5-8250U. The Graphics are taken care of by the Intel UHD Graphics 620, and Nvidia GeForce MX150 GPU. It has 8GB RAM, while the screen is 13.3-inch, (1920 x 1080). The storage options include 256GB. The ports include 3 and 3.1 (USB-C), 1 x USB-C 3.1, headset jack. The webcam is HD which sports a resolution of 480p. The laptop weighs 2.7 pounds, and the size is 12.2 x 8.5 x 0.5 inches (W x D x H).

The Zenbook 13 gives you the power to do almost anything you want when operating the laptop. It has the firepower which lets you do multitasking to the extreme level. For example, during our evaluation, we fired up as many as 25 Chrome tabs while playing movies in at least two tabs. The Zenbook 13 obliged without presenting any problems. You will also appreciate the luminosity of the screen. At times, the display seems to be slightly darker, but that does not make it inferior in any sense.

You can also play some games without any lags. The inclusion of Nvidia to take care of the graphics handles its job very well. The battery life will make you forget about the charger. On our tests, it lasted for over nine hours. The webcam falters though; the front-facing shooter does not capture clear images. Your worries about the laptop overheating due to its non-stop activities are now a thing of the past. It does stay cool even after running for a prolonged period.

For those who swear for a robust laptop having the drop-dead looks and exceptional battery life, the Zenbook 13 will undoubtedly be the best choice. As already mentioned, the Zenbook 13 is not cheap. You can get the same specifications at lower price ranges, but then you will have to compromise with a flat keyboard and a dimmer display. The Zenbook 13 is perfect and offers real value for the price you pay for it.

5. Microsoft

Microsoft laptops did not budge from the sixth place, the reason for this is not for their lackluster products Microsoft has a great assembly line of products, but their products are minimal which deprives them to rank among the top competitors. In 2018, Microsoft introduced the Surface laptop including the integration of the USB Type-C, and the Surface Book 15-inch variant now includes a GTX 1060 GPU. However, their basic computers lack the firepower, and their tech support was not up to the mark which does not help their cause in any way.

When you think of the best brand laptops, not many of you will consider Microsoft as a perfect alternative. Microsoft limits itself in manufacturing expensive laptops only, and they are indeed outstanding in all aspects. The company launched four new laptops, and three of them received the Editors’ Choice Awards. The launch of the Surface Book 2 in the 13 and 15-inch variants received great critical acclaim for all the right reasons. Microsoft is one of the pioneers who showed us they can make laptops with innovative clamshell designs.

The Surface Laptop from Microsoft is the highlight among all the Microsoft laptops. The laptop comes in vivid colors and is very sleek. They are bound to attract the consumer with their stunning looks. The Alcantara keyboard deck which you find in this laptop is miles ahead regarding performance when you consider the keyboards of the other manufacturers. But, Microsoft missed a plot in the Surface Pro laptop, the laptop is devoid of the USB Type-C and the Thunderbolt ports. The ability of the screen to open 165 degrees more is a plus point. Finally, with the introduction of the Surface Book 2, Microsoft addressed the issue by including the Type-C port.

You will feel Microsoft does not live up to its reputation when you contact the Tech support. They will invariably misguide you with wrong suggestions, and this is the case for both the phone support and the representatives available on the social media channels. The good thing is, you get a plethora of Microsoft outlets, thus servicing your laptop is not a big issue. In case, you need to ship your laptop, Microsoft does cover the shipping cost for both ways.

As already mentioned, Microsoft offers you with only four choices. These laptops are expensive and are going to address the requirements of consumers looking for high-end features. If you are on the lookout for a budget-friendly laptop, Microsoft laptops are not for you. The Surface Laptop and the Surface Pro laptop are the cheapest which costs nearly $800. Similarly, the price for the Surface Book 2 that packs a punch is undoubtedly beyond the reach of many individuals.

Microsoft high fives

Consumers looking for the best high-end laptops need not look any further. Whatever your requirements might be, the features are packed in the Surface series of laptops. These laptops are exceptional regarding performance.

The downsides

The entry-level laptops from Microsoft are just not worth mentioning. They are seriously underpowered, and you have a ton of choices from the other manufacturers in this segment. The tech support team is awful, Microsoft seriously needs to work on bettering their system.

Best overall Microsoft Laptop: Surface Book 2

Microsoft has made extensive internal improvements in this laptop in comparison to its predecessor. Yes, it is expensive, but once you bring the Surface Book 2 home, you will realize it is well worth the value. Microsoft has not made any notable design changes, but it certainly gives you the best experience in terms of performance.

Those of you, who have seen the Surface Laptop before will feel the design is almost identical in this sequel. The Surface Black 2 sports an all-black color variant which makes it looks elegant. Apart from the change in color, there are no visible changes. The laptop is lightweight and thin and is easy to carry around when you are traveling. One of the noticeable drawbacks in this laptop is the unavailability of the Surface Pen Stylus, the inclusion of the stylus would have allowed users to take full advantage of the touch-screen display. The keyboard is standout the Surface Book 2 has one of the quietest keyboards that you will ever come across. However, we would have appreciated the spacing of the keys to be a bit narrower.

The touchpad is again of the best you will ever come across. Surface Laptop 2 has much lesser ports than our liking. Furthermore, the ports are also not up to the latest standards which are disappointing.

The Surface Book 2 is powered by CPU: 1.7GHz Intel Core i5-8250U (quad-core, 6MB cache, up to 3.4GHz boost). The Graphics are taken care of by the Intel UHD Graphics 620. It has 8GB RAM, while the screen is 13.5-inch, (2,256 x 1,504) resolution PixelSense display (10-point multi-touch, 3:2 aspect ratio). The storage options include 256GB. The ports include 1x USB 3.0, mini DisplayPort, Surface Connect port, and headphone/mic jack. The webcam is 720p HD with infrared for Windows Hello. The laptop weighs 2.76 pounds, and the size is 12.13 x 8.79 x 0.57 inches (W x D x H).

According to Microsoft, the sequel of the Surface Book laptop has 85% more firepower than its predecessor. Understandably, like you, we were also eager to know if the laptop lives up to this claim. Well, it certainly does, we performed some high-level computing tasks including multitasking with the utmost ease. If you are looking to edit photos and videos, you can do so without the laptop causing any hiccups. The laptop does not have an overheating issue, which will let you work with it without any problems for as long as the charge lasts. Though the laptop is not the best choice to play the resource-hungry games, you can certainly play regular games with grace. The old ports, however, will take more time when you wish to transfer files to and from the laptop.

The display quality is excellent. You can expect to see the real colors where blacks appear deep and the other colors to be vivid and lively. The touch response is very swift. Microsoft claims the battery life to last for 14 and a half hours, but this is far from true. On our tests, it lasted for around six hours. The Windows Hello face recognition system with the help of the infrared camera next to the webcam is a delight and works accurately. Microsoft could have introduced a fingerprint reader, but we are not complaining.

Surface Book 2 offers you reliable performance and great hardware to go with it. You also get the full version of Windows 10 to explore. The limitation in ports is going to bother you still by its sheer performance we would recommend the laptop for everyone. Go, for the Surface Book 2 if you are one of those who does not want to hold back on power and performance.

6. Apple

It hurts to see; Apple laptops are sliding down the ranks with each passing year. The company was the undisputed ruler in the laptop arena once upon a time, but they could not manage to hold on to their name and fame. At the present day, MacBooks are the only variants that keep Apple in the “best brands ranking”. Lack of innovations, non-availability of touch-screen laptops and the aging MacBooks are not doing any favors for Apple.

Previously, while reviewing the brand Microsoft, we highlighted how the limited range of laptops from them has put the shackles and does not let them climb up the ladder regarding the leading brands. Apple shares a similar fate perhaps its assembly line is even lesser in comparison to Microsoft. Thus, it deservingly continues to slip downwards in the competition. The MacBook Pro among all the laptop variants from Apple is one of a kind and a standout laptop, but Apple products seriously lack the modern features which consumers crave for at the present day.

While the other brands are leaving no stones unturned when it comes to innovating the latest designs, Apple has only gone for incorporating the touch bar and making few of their products slightly slimmer. Like before, the MacBook Air still sports the old looks. The MacBook Pro variants now available in different colors, else all the other features remain the same and are getting out of favor. For the sake of making their newer laptops slimmer, Apple has reduced the number of ports that is all.

When it comes to tech support, no one can beat Apple. They have the best tech support teams both over the phone and on social media channels. You can expect to get a suitable answer to your problems within seconds. You can ask them anything, even off-topic questions and Apple’s representatives will be more than happy to provide you with the best answer. We also have the highest regard for the warranty service of the company. Apple covers the shipping fees, and also offers a pre-paid box in which you can send the broken or defective hardware to Apple. Also, Apple has some retail stores where you can quickly service your laptop.

Apple always seems to be keen on discreetly keeping its future developments. Apple introduced a faster and reliable file system without anyone even noticing it additionally; now Apple laptops have a newer HEVC video codec that compresses video for the sake of taking up less space. Since Apple keeps everyone guessing, no one knows what improvements they will bring about in the coming years.

Apple products are always expensive. The cheapest of the lot, MacBook Air is available at a whopping price of nearly $1000. With older designs, outdated ports, old CPUs, lack of touch-screen variants, you have plenty of other good choices to look for. For sure, each of their laptops is solid and offers excellent performance, but in modern times, they are not the best regarding value and selection.

Apple High Fives

Apple laptops have undergone a massive change by incorporating a new file system which serves the purpose of the consumers very well. They have the best tech support that sets the benchmark for all the other companies.

The downsides

Apple has its task cut out. With the lack of innovation, designs, and expensive range of laptops, Apple products are quickly getting out of favor.

The best overall Apple Laptop: Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch Z0UC4HN/A

The Apple MacBook Pro is available in 13 and 15-inch variants. The laptop is primarily targeted for the use of creative and professional people. As you can expect, it offers unmatched performance. That the laptop does not have a mass appeal itself is a problem for Apple. First of all, due to their price, many consumers will look for better and affordable alternatives. But for the serious professionals, the Apple MacBook Pro is going to be very useful. With powerful features, the option of upgrading the processor if needed, the laptop offers excellent durability and reliability.

We have already mentioned this; Apple has not made any significant contributions to the design of their laptops. The laptop is similar to the models of the previous years. Generally, the MacBook laptops are slim and have a light chassis. You should not find it a problem to carry it around despite the laptop sporting a larger screen. You are not going to see any other laptop that packs such a punch and is yet so lightweight. The laptop includes a touch bar; precisely this is a thin touchscreen glass that runs along the top of the keyboard and successfully displays the context-sensitive buttons on the screen. But, the touch bars also have a downside you will not be able to use them properly if you are unsure about their locations.

You cannot memorize their location which is so common when you do when using the physical buttons. Depending on the work you are doing, these buttons can change the touch bar is designated for providing quick shortcuts for enhancing the way of your work. For sure, the inclusion of the touch bar has made it suitable for us to work with third-party apps such as Google Chrome, and Adobe Photoshop. The laptop also has a fingerprint scanner which works very well. The new and revamped MacBook pro has a new keyboard it is a delight to work with it.

Without a doubt, this is a welcome move, as consumers did encounter problems with the older versions of this laptop. The new keyboard is noiseless thanks to the inclusion of a new silicon membrane you will find it a sheer delight to work on it. Apart from this, Apple has also made some notable adjustments in the display of this laptop. The true tone display tech enhances the picture quality notably. Based on the ambient light of the surroundings, the laptop can adjust its display, so every time you get more explicit and breath-taking pictures.

The Apple MacBook Pro is powered by CPU: 2.9GHz Intel Core i9-8950HK (hex-core, eight threads, 12MB cache, up to 4.8GHz). The Graphics are taken care of by the AMD Radeon Pro 560X, Intel UHD Graphics 630. It has 32GB RAM, while the screen is 15.4-inch, 2,880 x 1,800 Retina display (backlit LED, IPS, 500 nits brightness, wide color P3 gamut) The storage options include 2TB. The ports include 4x Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C), 3.5mm headphone jack. The webcam is 720p FaceTime HD webcam. The laptop weighs 4.02 pounds, and the size is 13.75 x 9.48 x 0.61 inches W x D x H.

If you have gone through the specifications, you already know this laptop is indeed very powerful. Brilliant would be a gross understatement for its performance. The laptop is seriously fast and responsive. You can expect similar performances on the 13-inch variant also. Of course, the 13-inch MacBook Pro is slightly inferior in specs, but it is still a powerhouse. With the 15-inch option, you can complete graphic-intensive works like video and image editing with the highest precision.

The humungous RAM, along with the Graphics card takes care of everything like multitasking and playing high-quality videos. You can work in multiple tabs, play games, and do whatever you want, and the laptop will obey your commands without any problems. The battery life is equally good. We ran continuous tests and found the battery to last close to ten hours.

Moreover, battery life will depend on the type of work you are doing in it. If you regularly perform intensive tasks like video editing, the battery will drain faster. The MacBook Pro 15-inch previously had overheating complaints. For this, Apple has come up with a bug fix that directly impacts the thermal management system and eventually drives the clock speeds down. Now, the laptop getting too hot is a thing of the past.

The MacBook Pro 15-inch Z0UC4HN/A is a top performer. The subtle modifications in the newer variant like the more powerful processor, increased RAM, and the HEVC video codec, this has to be the most powerful laptop you will ever come across. The price tag would not woo many consumers. Also, the need to use adapters for the sake of the lesser ports is not going to go down well with many individuals. The laptop is solely for those who badly need a powerful laptop for their work.

7. Razer

Razer is a brand which retains the eighth place for successive years now. Razer has some good gaming laptops and lightweight Ultrabooks. Razer continues to experiment and come up with some innovative laptops and if their willingness to produce state-of-the-art laptops will surely push them ahead in the competition among the best brands. Razer is still relatively new in this arena in comparison to the other laptop manufacturers. Currently, it offers only offers a handful of laptops, but all of them have spectacular designs, gorgeous displays, and excellent performance. All the products are near the 4-star quality, which is rather impressive.

We became fans of the Blade Pro laptop in particular that includes features like an optional 4K G-Sync display, customizable keyboard, and state-of-the-art chassis. Similarly, another product the Razer Blade Stealth offers the choice of connecting an eGPU, coupled with stunning looks, portability. Late this year, The Razer Blade 15 hit the scenes which were again targeted for the gamers, and it sports a definite retro look. It is a non-gaming laptop, and the battery life is disappointing, but the features alone would make you fall in love with it.

The Razer laptops excel when you are looking for exceptional designs. Usually, they have an ink-black aluminum chassis and are crowd pullers. In 2018, Razer made modifications to its design by adding a new color to the one-note catalog of the company, replacing the older logo style. Additionally, Razer made way for the office-friendly white backlight by replacing the jewel-like Chroma keys. So, as you can see, Razer is continuously working on the designs to make their laptops different.

The tech support of Razer is a mixed bag. The company has a brand new live chat feature which will help you with satisfactory answers. The phone-support guys are helpful and knowledgeable most of the time. Furthermore, Razer’s warranty policy is good. You have the privilege of upgrading the memory and storage, and it will not void the policy. Razer also covers the shipping costs and ensures the shipping is quick.

It seems, Razer is prioritizing on making the gaming laptops more affordable. They made substantial price cuts this year without compromising on the performance. When you look at the price of the Razer Blade Pro, you will be in for a surprise. For ardent gaming fans, the cost is never a barrier; at the amount in which Razer is selling the Razer Blade Pro, it will surely attract many more people.

Razer has also come up with some vibrant colors for some of the other models. Lastly, in a trade show this year, Razer introduced a dock that can transform the laptop into a phone. So, Razer is never short of innovations and implementing them. Razer laptops are mainly for gaming. With the new price cut, gaming laptops have undoubtedly come within the reach of many individuals. So, the Razer laptops do give you excellent value for your money.

Razer High Fives

Razer offers the best gaming laptops at the most affordable price. Additionally, the laptops have excellent specifications which make them ultimate performers.

The downsides

The Razer laptops are expensive, so not everyone will have a liking for them. The Tech support at times can be frustrating.

The best overall Razer Laptop: Razer Blade 15

During the late second half this year, Razer decided to explore the 15-inch gaming laptop market and introduced the Razer Blade 15. As usual, the laptop sports an impressive design and is a powerhouse performer. The laptop, like the other products from the manufacturer, is expensive which would disappoint the likes of gamers who are on a tight budget. The new laptop from Razer features dual storage and Gigabit Ethernet. Furthermore, it integrates the Intel Core i7 processor and the Nvidia GTX 1060 Max-Q GPU.

Razer is always known for its ability to shell out laptops with exquisite designs. For the Razer Blade 15, they gave it a retro look. The tiny rounded corners will remind you of the old-style laptops, and you inevitably get the vintage feeling. The build is no different from the other products from this manufacturer it is made up of midnight CNC aluminum. You get a noticeable flex in the middle which sports the default trademark of Razer, a three-headed snake that glows. It features a Chroma keypad and is a delight to look at. The speakers can be found on either side of the recess, and the power button somewhat can be located near the left speaker. The laptop is available in black and mercury white models.

The Razer Blade 15 is powered by CPU: 2.2GHz Intel Core i7-8750H. The Graphics are taken care of by the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 Max-Q GPU/Intel UHD Graphics 630 GPU. It has 16GB RAM that is upgradable to 32GB, while the screen is 15.6-inch, 3840 X 2160p. The storage options include 2TB. The ports include Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C), 3.5mm headphone jack. The webcam is 720p HD webcam. The laptop weighs 4.7 pounds, and the size is 14 x 9.3 x 0.8 inches W x D x H.

The display of the Razer Blade 15 is almost identical to its name. You can expect razor-sharp image qualities, and it will deliver crisp graphics every time whether you are watching a movie or playing your favorite game, the experience you will love it. For those seeking perfections might crave for a brighter panel, but this is quite acceptable. The keyboard is pleasing to the eyes but not so comfortable when you type on them. When you get the Razer Blade 15, your main aim will be to try out the best games on it. However, you can also rely on the laptop as it can help you in your productivity works too. To let you know, we opened 30 tabs of Google Chrome at a time and put it in taxing conditions. We hardly witnessed any hiccups, and the laptop performed all the work without any trouble. The dual-storage option for this laptop is also very advantageous. You can transfer files from one drive to the other at the speed of knots.

Remember, while describing the design of the Razer Blade 15, we mentioned the laptop is all aluminum. So, it tends to get very hot when it is in operation for some time. There is no measure to keep the overheating problem at bay right now, and we wish, Razer soon comes out with a solution for this. Again, when your focus is on gaming, you would want to for a laptop to last for a prolonged period, and it seems Razer has heard your prayers. During our evaluation, the laptop lasted for a little more than six hours which is quite good. It outlasts some of the other competitors manufacturing gaming laptops regarding battery life.

If you are ready to bang the buck, the Razer Blade 15 is for you. At $1799 you can get one of the best gaming laptops which are sleek, lightweight, and packs a solid performance. Still, if you love comparing you can get cheaper gaming laptops in this genre. But, we recommend the Razer Blade 15 to all the hardcore gaming fans who are not prepared to settle for anything but the best.

8. MSI

MSI just could not manage to sustain the competition and ends up at the bottom of the table. We have no hesitation in admitting, MSI has an appreciable assembly line of gaming notebooks and workstations, but their products could not find favor with the experts of the trade. Some aspects hurdle the progress of the brand, which includes the limitation in the selection, not showing the intent to innovate the laptops, and MSI has the worst website- based tech support in the laptop market.

MSI laptops are excellent and offer good value for money in both the gaming laptops and the workstations. However, it seems to lose its way amidst the fierce competition out there. One MSI laptop did win the Editors’ Choice Award, but the other laptops were marred by issues like lousy battery life and expensive costs.

Appearance-wise, MSI laptops look good. Anyone who spots the MSI laptop with the black and red color palette will appreciate it. The designs are often simple, and there is nothing over-the-top design stuffs on their laptops. For convenience, the MSI laptops are slim and elegant. The gaming laptops are equally impressive, and one of them offers the perfect replacement for a desktop, in terms of its appearance, size, and performance. MSI seems to spend quality time in designing their laptops, and it clearly shows in their products. You will also notice MSI loves the chassis it makes; therefore they recycle them with the laptops that are not intended for gaming regularly. The non-gaming laptops also deserve accolades for their designs.

You should not have any issues when you contact MSI representatives over the phone. But, due to the readability issues coupled with poor design, the support site of MSI is very disappointing. The Warranty features from MSI are also a mixed bag. It does not cover the costs of shipping and only has accidental-damage protection which you can avail after registering. In the present competitive market, we could not find any other brands to exercise such policies.

The manufacturer has tried its best to implement innovations in their newer laptops. But, they were not successful in achieving them. The only mentionable change this year was the introduction of fifteen heat pipes in one of its laptops. MSI has already several plans up their sleeves for future laptops. The introduction of laptops covered in customizable lights to stay in the game along with its competitors is just a hint of the things to come. Ideally, the focus of MSI has always been towards gaming laptops; recently they are also considering taking some power from those gaming laptops and offering those features for the workstation laptops. For the gaming fans, they can choose from the sleek and slim notebooks or get their hands on the monster laptops like the Titan Pro.

MSI High Fives

You can always count on the MSI brand for robust and power-packed laptops. The company also offers free-accidental damage protection, which is something unique.

The downsides

MSI’s liking of its designs is becoming too predictable; no one will appreciate the same chassis for gaming and workstation laptops. The MSI website is a nightmare, and they need to work on it. It is high time MSI comes up with out of the box ideas to stay in this competition.

The best overall MSI Laptop: MSI GT75 Titan

MSI GT75 Titan

MSI has opted out of the bandwagon of producing a thin and lightweight laptop that packs a lot of power. It is one of its kinds, and we have no hesitation in saying, this big and powerful laptop is a dream come right device for the gamers. You can rightfully call it the “Hulk” of gaming laptops, capable of doing everything you ask to do it. You can play almost any games on this laptop, and you will not find any reason to complain. The laptop as you can imagine is mighty expensive for the liking of many, but then true gamers never compromise on the price factor.

The laptop is big, thick, and heavy. MSI had no plans to make it lightweight, and this is more kind of a stay-at-home laptop. You can also consider this laptop as the perfect substitute of the desktop. The laptop has RGB lighting everywhere you look at. If you do not like the lights, you have the option to turn them off, but you have to bear the sound of loud fans. Weighing a massive 10.5 pounds, it is better not to carry it when you are traveling. Not only will it exhaust you, but the laptop will also surely attract weird reactions. Its build perfectly compliments the size of the laptop. The lid and the top half of the bottom have a smooth aluminum finish. But, the bottom half is made of plastic. It was necessary for the sake of ventilation to support the hardware.

The mechanical keyboard is unique and capable of giving you a good experience. MSI has perfectly designed the keyboard, keeping in mind the users will press hard at them when playing an intensive game. Though the laptop does include a trackpad, it is inferior in comparison to the rest of the hardware of the laptop. MSI has not restricted the ports as well. They are in plenty, and you are free to attach your peripherals to them.

The MSI GT75 Titan is powered by CPU: 2.9GHz Intel Core i9-8950HK (hex-core, 12MB cache, up to 4.8GHz). The Graphics is taken care by the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 (8GB GDDR5X); Intel UHD Graphics 630. It has 32GB RAM, while the screen is 17.3-inch UHD (3,840 x 2,160) IPS, G-Sync. The storage options include 1TB SSD (PCIe), 1TB HDD (7,200 RPM). The ports include USB 3.1 Gen2 x 5, 1 x Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C), mini DisplayPort, HDMI-out, RJ-45 Ethernet, 1 x SD card reader, 1 x Mic-in, 1 x Headphone-out, 1 x Line-in, 1 x Line-out. The webcam is 720p HD webcam. The laptop weighs 10.5 pounds, and the size is 16.85 x 12.36 x 1.22 inches W x D x H.

MSI has left us with little choice but to admire the performance of this humungous laptop. We were blown away by the display, sound and the experience to play games in it. It is as if it is as good as a desktop. The display screen is one of the best in the business, the addition of 4K G-Sync guarantees smooth gameplay every time. It should not take you long to realize the potentiality of this laptop. Not many manufacturers manage to live up to the claims, but the GT75 Titan excels in every way. You can go ahead and test it, we are sure, the results will be the same which we got when we evaluated this beast. Pick up any game of your liking, let it be resource hungry, and it will play it with elan. The other side of the laptop is equally impressive.

You get blistering speeds when you do some additional work on it. So, for instance, you can open an infinite number of tabs on the browser and do whatever you want, and it will do so without breaking a sweat. But, we have to break the unfortunate news to you. The more you tax the behemoth, the hotter it gets. You can realize it, as the laptop fans will start screaming when the laptop is under the hammer for a couple of hours. But, take our word, you will not find a better gaming laptop in the present day. So, if you swear for playing the latest games, the GT75 Titan is for you.

The battery life will not make you happy either, while testing, we found the laptop battery could not even last for a full two hours. But then as we mentioned earlier, you are not going to carry this laptop anywhere. You will be happy to use it plugged into the electrical socket. Another cautionary note for you, prepare the electrical board accordingly, as the laptop needs a lot of voltage and underprepared electrical switchboards are not advisable.

The GT75 Titan is for the gamers, and it successfully fulfills their expectations. We keep on reiterating, the laptop is for those who are serious gamers and do not want to compromise with configurations and settings. In the real sense, this is not quite a laptop; you will have to keep it plugged in for your operations. Investing in a laptop would be better you may ask? No, we say, this laptop is for those, who want to live life king size breaking the conventions.

9. Samsung

Samsung finds itself at the bottom of the table in the best brands. Their uninspiring laptops from Samsung are the main reason that establishes the company at this position. Here and there, Samsung does come up with a few good laptops like the premium Chromebooks in the Pro and Plus models, but they alone are incapable of boosting the ranks of the company. Furthermore, Samsung miserably fails to bring about notable changes to its assembly line, apart from introducing the S Pen Stylus support for the laptops the company has not made any significant innovations.

Talking about the brand itself, those who are unaware of the quality of laptops they manufacture, the spectacular series of phones and televisions will naturally come to the mind. But, the laptop segment is entirely different, and it is not even a fraction as good as its phones and TVs. Most of the laptops were unable to get a decent review and were mostly below par the expectations, quite expectedly, with such a dismal lineup, the Editors’ Choice Awards were far-fetched for them. It is not that Samsung laptops you can entirely write off their products, they have tried to implement some fresh ideas like manufacturing lightweight and laptops with good displays, but they have serious flaws in respect to the battery life, and chassis. Poorly designed laptops that cost an arm and a leg did not help their cause either.

It appears, Samsung wholeheartedly dedicates its efforts for making state-of-the-art smartphones. They seriously lack the design ideas for manufacturing laptops. The Notebook Odyssey, for instance, touted as the only gaming laptop is made out of plastic and a plethora of forgettable arrangements. Understandably, it had no takers. Though Samsung has some good Chromebooks in its kitty with good designs, it is shocking why the company could not manage to carry forward the excellent work in all the other laptops.

The tech support of Samsung is excellent. The representatives will always give accurate answers to your problems both in the phone and social media channels. Samsung also offers a solid warranty system. A one-year warranty is standard for all its products, some of its laptops even go to the extent of getting a 3-year warranty. It offers free shipping for specific laptops, and for some, you need to bear the expenses. As already mentioned, it seems Samsung mainly focuses on its flagship phones more than the laptops. Thus it could not introduce the much-needed innovations in the laptop arena. Only a couple of changes, like the introduction of the S Pen Stylus, an in air command for Windows booting, adding a Radeon GPU to one of the laptops is all that Samsung could manage to execute correctly.

Currently, the Samsung line up of laptops does not offer the best value for your money. Samsung aims to connect to every user, and for this reason, their entry-level laptops are priced below $200, but they lack the performance which makes them not so worthy for usage. The ones which are acceptable are too expensive for your comfort. The only gaming laptop from the company owing to its cheap designs fell flat.

Samsung High Fives

The lesser we speak about their laptops, the better. The only bright spot of Samsung is its excellent tech support team. But, unless people buy and use their laptops extensively, the tech support would soon become lone spectators.

The downsides

For a change, here is a laptop brand, where you can go on counting the cons. Uninspiring designs, lack of value, and the unavailability of laptops that have decent features, all work against the brand.

The best overall Samsung Laptop: Samsung Notebook 9

Samsung Notebook 9

When you pick up the Samsung Notebook 9, you will shake your head in disbelief. We guarantee you have never come across such a lightweight 15-inch laptop before. The laptop is one exceptional product from the otherwise dismal assembly line of products from Samsung. The Notebook 9 scores well in all the critical areas as it is capable of a good performance, has an impressive battery life, and a vivid display. However, we feel Samsung has overpriced the laptop. Still, those who need to travel a lot, and prefer a more prominent display for convenience coupled with excellent portability feature, the Notebook 9 is undoubtedly a good choice.

The weight as mentioned before is the best aspect of the laptop. But, the build quality of the chassis and the keyboard is not going to impress everyone. Samsung decided to keep the design simple which is good. It sports a conventional silver-design and has the logo of the company on the lid. The chassis is made from magnesium-alloy, and it does not give it a classy appearance. If you compare the laptop with the other thinner and sleeker models by other manufacturers, this has to be one of the lightest. As you are aware, most manufacturers are parting ways with the ports in order to make their laptops slimmer and lighter. Samsung Notebook 9 has not sacrificed the essential ports to make the laptop lightweight. It has all the necessary ports for your convenience and yet manages to stay slim which is indeed exceptional.

CPU: 2.5GHz Intel Core i7-6500U powers the Samsung Notebook 9. The Graphics is taken care by the Intel HD Graphics 520, and Nvidia 940MX GPU. It has 16GB RAM, while the screen is 15-inch UHD (1920 x 1080). The storage options include 1TB SSD. The ports include 2 USB 3 ports, USB Type-C, HDMI, Headphone/Mic jack, microSD card. The webcam is 720p HD webcam. The laptop weighs 2.77 pounds, and the size is 13.64 x 9.32 x 0.57 W x D x H.

The display of the Samsung Notebook 9 is quite commendable. The 1080p display guarantees a crisp and vibrant image quality. While watching HD movies, the screen will display all the more exceptional details which you would really appreciate. The display quality is almost at par, and in some cases even better than some of its competitors in this genre. Additionally, you will be spellbound looking at the color accuracy of the laptop. The Audio speakers are decent but are not loud, especially, if you are a bass lover, you will look for other options to hear quality sound from the laptop. The experience of the keyboard will not please you one little bit; they are hollow and snappy. You will feel the keyboard is way too cheap and you will eventually stop liking it totally. Next, the chassis will tend to sink down even if it sustains a bit of extra pressure.

The Notebook 9 also includes a fingerprint scanner which does work well. Performance wise, the laptop performs excellently as it is powered by the Intel Core i7 processor and 16GB of RAM. Thus, you are free to do any kind of work in it, like opening many Chrome tabs at a time. The laptop will show no signs of lag. Our comparisons made it clear; it does perform rather well compared to some of the other laptops of other manufacturers. With the help of the Nvidia 940MX GPU, you can also play the light games well. The webcam is not very good; you can use it for the sake of making calls through messengers or Skype.

The battery life is also an aspect for you to cheer. On our tests, the laptop easily lasted for more than nine hours which makes it a standout laptop among the others. The other good thing about this laptop is, under no circumstances, you will have to deal with the overheating problem. Most of the included software in this laptop works well with Samsung phones. Samsung has also integrated an online support tool so that you can get efficient and swift customer service.

If you can excuse the price factor, Notebook 9 is a perfect selection for those who look for performance and portability. You will find it incredibly easy for using the laptop for multitasking and playing lightweight games. Only if Samsung gave more attention to the design of the chassis of the laptop, this laptop would have become unbeatable in the 15-inch laptops segment. At the price in which the Notebook 9 is available, Samsung needs to innovate some new out of the box ideas if it wishes to stay in the competition with others.

How you can choose the best laptop?

Of course, there are some brands which over the years have become synonymous with laptops. They offer outstanding power and portability, but no matter how much reputation the laptop manufacturing brand like Dell, HP, Lenovo, or Acer holds, it will not be as flexible as the desktop. Replacing or upgrading a laptop is not as easy as it is on a desktop. Thus, you need to be spot on with your decision making; the laptop you choose should address all your requirements correctly. The guide below will introduce you to the determinant factors that will help you to pick up the best laptop.

All the best brand laptops offer different sizes from 11-inch to 17-inch variants, this is where you stumble right at the start. Precisely speaking, you cannot define the best size for a laptop. The size factor would depend on your budget and requirements. So, a 17-inch screen will be feasible for the gamers in particular.

Additionally, you will find it super-convenient to work with it. A laptop with a big screen will also offer you the advantage of a decent-sized keyboard which will help you to type effortlessly. But then, these laptops will be far more cumbersome and bigger than the smaller ones.

The laptops with 17-inch screens are ideal replacements for desktops but not the best option if you are a frequent traveler. Likewise, there is no point in getting an ultra-light 13-inch laptop with a smaller screen for using it at home. If you want a perfect balance, the 15-inch variants should be ideal.

Screen Resolution

Who does not love playing games and watching movies on their laptops? Again, you may be a professional graphics designer or do detailed graphics work; your preference should be for a high-quality display. Some of the top laptop brands also offer the convenience of touchscreen facilities, and these are going to suit you perfectly.

All the best brand laptops at the present day will offer you a minimum resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. Generally, this resolution should be enough to work on a laptop. You can even work on two applications adjacent to each other in this screen resolution. Now, here comes the catch. For most, the resolution influences the buying factor. But remember, small-screen laptops with higher resolutions will not make life easier for you. On the contrary, the operating system has to take the onus and scale everything up.

You cannot expect a lot of space on a 15-inch screen that has a jaw-dropping resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It will only ensure, the text and icons on your laptop screen will appear smoother, as a result, you will find it easier to see. Now, we leave this decision to you. Always test some laptops of the best brands to understand the specific resolution that is suitable for your vision, and more importantly makes you comfortable to work.

Form Factor

Again, your tastes and preferences should take center stage influencing the type of design of the laptops. If you are trying something different, then you can choose from several laptops which offer an entirely new look. You can also check out the some of the latest entrants by the best brands which do not modify the conventional look but adds a touchscreen. Those into creative work will find this very handy. If you are a frequent traveler, check out the 2-in-1s, the laptops which double up as tablets.

There are specific models which allow you the convenience of detaching the screen from the laptop. Thus you need not shoulder the burden of the weight. Remember, if you opt for the fancy designs or additional aspects which we just talked about, you should be ready with the finances as these are going to be costly. If you can do without these flexible options, stick to the standard form factor.

Keyboards are a vital criterion you do not want to end up buying a laptop and find the keyboard to be unpleasant. The good thing is, all the best laptop brands offer you a wide array of choices both regarding quality and variations. Of course, you cannot try out the keyboards of all the best laptop brands, but you can spend some of your time researching about the usefulness of the keyboards.

Review sites will give you an insight into your queries. The size of the keyboard along with the functional keys is directly dependent on the size of the laptop. For instance, you will find the Numpad only on a handful of the best laptop brands, that too on the larger variants only. Always keep in mind, the work you plan to do with the laptop, and accordingly choose the keyboard. Else, if you get a keyboard that does not meet your expectations, you will have no option but to cope with the problems as long as you use the laptop.

There is nothing to elaborate on the importance of the touchpad of laptops. You must test the touchpad or at least learn from the experiences of others. A poor touchpad will make your life miserable as you will find it increasingly difficult to control the cursor. Then there is some touchpad which will seldom respond to your finger movements. Look for the best brand laptops that feature support gestures. It will facilitate the use of two fingers, and you will find it super easy to scroll. Again, if you invest some of your time in researching on the best brand laptops with excellent touchpad, you should be able to get it. It is always a good idea to keep a USB travel mouse up to your sleeves, just in case you need it.

What all do you need to plug into your laptop? Have the answer to this question ready. At the present day, we have a wide array of devices which connects to the USB ports. You certainly do not want to be in a position where you need to unplug a particular device for the sake of attaching another. For example, if you get your hands on a laptop with only two ports, you will possibly connect your mouse and the printer to it. For the sake of transferring photos from your phone or camera to the laptop, you need to unplug any one of them. So, it is advisable to look for more connectivity options. Some of the best brand laptops do include three ports for your convenience.

Networking is the next important aspect when we talk about connectivity. Currently, most of the laptops have inbuilt wireless networking, but they rarely include an Ethernet plug. The lack of the Ethernet plug can be an issue when you are on the move. Make sure; you check the laptop’s wireless chip. It should support AC for offering the best transfer speeds.

Check out the video outputs also. Most of the best brand laptops will include the HDMI video output for connecting the device to the modern TVs and monitors. If you wish to join the laptop with a 4K TV, look for the laptops that support HDMI 2.0. However, not many laptops include this feature, so you may need to prolong your search before you find one.

So far, we were focusing on the essential hardware aspects of the best brand laptops. Let us shift our attention to the other critical elements. All the features we talked about above will hardly matter if the laptop has a poor performance. Ideally, you will be looking for the best brand laptops that pack a punch. The laptops that have the best processing power will ensure the same. So, select a model which has the decent processing power and RAM to help you use it for as long as you want. Such laptops are best for college uses and business persons.

Settle for no less than 4GB RAM. Most of the best brand laptops will not offer their devices with 4GB RAM only. If your profession demands video-related works, then 8GB RAM should be your best bet. Now, it boils down to selecting the best processor. On our tests, we identified, you should not consider anything less than the Intel Core i3 processor. Of course, there are the higher-end processors like the i5 and i7. The choice would again depend on the type of work you will do with your laptop. Intel processors still reign supreme in the arena of processors. Thus, we tested these processors only. By chance, if you are a fan of the AMD processors, we would advise you to go for the AMD 8 or A10 processors only.

Generally, you will find the name “Intel HD Graphics” in most of the best laptop brands. It implies the graphics integrated with the processor’s chipset. It should be ideal for normal operations, or if you want to play simple games. However, the hardcore gamers would need to look for a laptop that integrates a dedicated graphics chipset, solely for the gaming purpose. In that case, you will have to do a detailed search on how these graphics chipsets are going to perform from the model number of the best laptop brands. If you are looking forward to playing the high-end games, you have to invest in an expensive laptop.

Battery life

You will understandably, use the laptop for performing a wide array of works. Therefore, the battery power of the laptop should at least allow you to work a full day with it. So, select the best laptop brands based on battery power. If you travel often, you cannot expect to find power sockets often. Remember, the smaller and lighter laptops will offer a better battery life in comparison to the larger models. Usually, the 15-inch laptops of the best brands should last for seven hours. The smaller laptops as already mentioned, will do better and give you around ten hours. The bigger 17-inch monsters will quickly drain the battery, expect them to last not more than four hours.

Look for an SSD which will boot the laptop faster. Laptops generally do not have the provision of more than one disk. You will find cheaper laptops which offer 32GB of storage, which you can understand is not going to be enough. Owing to the current trend, you should settle for nothing less than a 120GB SSD.

Additionally, make sure, you also use the cloud storage. For those who will use the laptop at home, at least 500GB storage is advisable. The home-based laptops will be stuffed with photos, movies, and videos, so this is a bare minimum. The good news is, in recent times, some of the best laptop brands have come up with the hybrid “SSHD drives which is a good option. Ultimately, the choice of storage will boil down to the way you are going to use the laptop
